breaking the curse of toil

In Genesis 3, God curses man to work:

Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:
Cursed is the ground for your sake;
In toil you shall eat of it
All the days of your life.

18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you,
And you shall eat the herb of the field.

19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return.”

This curse is broken with the blood of Christ at calvary. Once again, we find the thorns. But this time, it’s a crown on a saving King. The crown of thorns released Jesus blood over the brow and washed it clean forever removing the curse of the sweat of the brow.

We start to see evidence of this (foreshadowing perhaps) when Jesus commands us not to worry in Matthew 6:

26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He clothe you not much more , O you of little faith?

We have moved from a currency of sweat and toil to a currency of faith. Believing in Him to provide produces the abundance and delivers us. God will provide all that we need. He promises to.

The answer:

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
