Deuteronomy 6-8 is a great instruction on God’s role as a Father, His motives and His abundance. God is very much a jealous lover and wants no rivals.
If we desire His HAND, we are to do three things (Dueteronomy 8:6):
1) Keep His commands
2) Walk in His ways
3) Fear Him
This is our recipe for success.
It goes on in verse 7-10 to explain why we should do this:
“FOR, the LORD your God is brining you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in the valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; a land where you will eat food without scarcity, in which you will not lack anything; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper. When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you.”
We will PRAISE our God for His goodness. He wants good things for us. He wants abundance for us. He wants us to have much. It is in His Word. His Word does NOT return empty.
Yes, He disciplines us just as a Dad should. He has only good for us. Look at verse 16; “In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end.”
The entire time we spend walking around in the desert is to bring us lower so that He can raise us up. Bless God.
Once we have gotten there, and He lifts us up, He asks for us to obey Him, to praise Him, to honor Him, to truly understand His ways and to respect Him.
These are the characteristics that we should show any father.
Praise you Father. Bless You.
If you want to know how to forget God, look at verse 11: “Beware that you do NOT forget the LORD your God BY NOT KEEPING HIS COMMANDMENTS AND HIS ORDINANCES AND HIS STATUTES which I am commanding you today”
